It’s been just over a year since I debuted 2 of Kind on Facebook, a page I created for all the food photos monopolizing my personal account. It was also my lazy attempt at blogging. Why set up a full-fledged blog if I could build and maintain a Facebook “flog” in a few clicks? Facebook was also my preferred social network at the time – it was where I went to see what my friends and favorite brands and bloggers were up to.
I still check Facebook regularly (several times a day, at least) but have since expanded my horizons. It began when I voluntarily created an Instagram account for my company and, shortly afterwards, wanted one for myself. And then I started blogging for my company. Suddenly, I was spending more time planning editorial calendars, optimizing posts for SEO, and learning the ins and outs of a new content management system. It was all new territory for me and after experiencing several bumps in the road, I never would have imagined I would be here.
But I’m always up for a good challenge. Exactly one year and two months ago, I set three goals for 2013 on the 2 of a Kind Facebook page:
- Find a new kitchen (and home) for 2 of a Kind – We’re quickly outgrowing our current place.
- Discover new food blogs and try more challenging recipes.
- Make “2 of a Kind” a household name, by growing our Facebook following and sharing more of our goodies with friends, family and anyone with an appetite.
With the exception of making 2 of a Kind a household name, I accomplished all three. We moved from our tiny one-bedroom apartment to a more spacious single-family home in May of last year; since joining Instagram, I’ve come across so many talented cooks, bloggers and photographers and tried some of their recipes; and, of course, I continue to share my homemade treats.
So, 2014 will be the year of blogging. And with this venture comes a new look for the girl/dog duo – one that’s a bit more sophisticated, if you will.
Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty. We hope you join us for the ride!
